Quit India Movement
The final push for freedom - "Do or Die" call by Gandhi.
📜About This Movement
The Quit India Movement, also known as the August Movement or Bharat Chhodo Andolan, was launched on August 8, 1942, at the Bombay session of the All-India Congress Committee. Mahatma Gandhi's iconic call of "Do or Die" (Karo ya Maro) became the rallying cry for millions of Indians.
This was the most aggressive movement launched by the Indian National Congress against British rule. The demand was simple and direct - immediate end to British rule in India. Gandhi declared that Indians would no longer accept British governance under any circumstances.
The British response was swift and brutal. Within hours of the resolution, all major Congress leaders including Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, and Azad were arrested. Despite the mass arrests, the movement spread like wildfire across the country.
